PVR-Inox curated ‘KKK’ Film-Fest a blockbuster B’Day Gift ( Sept 21) for ‘screen-queen’ Kareena Kapoor Khan? by Chaitanya Padukone

Amazing ‘triple’ cinematic coincidences that will surely get chronicled in the history of Bollywood! Magnificent theatre collaboration PVR-Inox has just announced the Kareena Kapoor Khan (KKK) Film Festival! It’s a jubilant celebration of the ( almost) 25-years acting career of one of India's most talented, adulated iconic star-actresses Kareena Kapoor Khan. A powerful versatile performer who has carved her own unique space in Indian cinema, gorgeous Kareena’s career is a compelling blend of box office commercial success and critical acclaim.

The second coincidence is that this week-long film-festival starting on Sept 20th is happening during her birthday celebrations ( Sept 21st), which implies that the  PVR-Inox ‘KKK’ curated Film-Fest is a classic B’Day Gift for the stunning ‘screen-queen’ Kareena Kapoor Khan!

The third glorious coincidence is that this Kareena film-festival is happening in the Centenary Year of Kareena’s legendary grandfather ‘showman’ Raj Kapoor who was born in December 1924. In all probability, the PVR-Inox visionary team may even curate a Raj Kapoor @100 tribute film-festival of RK movies to be screened during December 2024.

This week-long film festival will run over 30 Cinemas in 15 Cities from 20 – 27 September 2024, offering audiences a unique exciting opportunity to experience the best of Khan’s cinematic journey on the big screen once again. This celebration coincides with the release of her latest film, The Buckingham Murders—an atmospheric thriller that delves into themes of grief and the human desire for closure, featuring one of Khan’s most compelling performances.

'The Buckingham Murders' is directed by maverick genius Hansal Mehta and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Khan. It's presented by Balaji Telefilms in association with Kareena Kapoor Khan, A. Mahana Films, and TBM Films Production. The release of  super-hit gripping thriller movie The Buckingham Murders serves as a prelude to the fabulous film festival.

The outspoken Kareena ( whom I have known even before her acting debut, when she used to accompany her elder sister Karisma Kapoor  )  officially flagged off the “KKK” film-fest announcement on 18 September, This was conducted in the presence of dynamic top bosses Mr. Kamal Gyanchandani, Ms. Niharika Bijli and Mr. Aamer Bijli,  who also briefed the news-media, at the luxurious hi-tech auditorium of PVR INOX Lido Cinema at Juhu in Mumbai.

During the brief media inter-actions, the candid Kareena said that even after completing almost 25 years, as a passionate actress, she “still has that energy and the greed to face the movie-cameras and that it felt as if she had just given her first debut ‘shot’”. During the news-media conver-session, six-times Filmfare Awards winner, Kareena also shared that “playing a detective”, was among her dream-roles, which she has brilliantly executed in The Buckingham Murders. Speaking about her successful longevity in the movie-industry, Kareena ( who has over 65 released films to her credit) said it was all thanks to a combination of “consistent repeat of versatile talent with that X-factor, the ability to look back maybe once in five years, keep re-inventing and of course 30 percent luck. Even I would wish to leave behind my body-of-cinematic-work legacy, that will add value to the glorious RK banner legacy,” said Kareena who also shared that ( after ‘Omkara’, Tashan etc)  and she would love to co-star in more movies with charismatic actor-husband Saif Ali Khan.

Incidentally, Saif Ali Khan will be seen in a Telugu action thriller movie ‘Devara Part-1 releasing on Sept 27th which has superstar N T Rama Rao Junior in a dual role. While Kareena has her next action-thriller movie Singham Again ( as  Ajay Devgn’s screen-wife) releasing during Diwali 2024—directed by Rohit Shetty.

Recently, while speaking at the press conference of the film festival, Kareena Kapoor Khan said that she would definitely watch the film Jab We Met with both her sons Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh Ali Khan.

This ‘KKK’  film-fest movies show-list includes ‘Asoka’ by Santosh Sivan, ‘Chameli’ by Sudhir Mishra, ‘Jab We Met’ by Imtiaz Ali, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ by Karan Johar, and ‘Omkara’ by Vishal Bhardwaj. By reviving these classics, PVR Inox aims to engage both nostalgic audiences and new Gen-Z young generations, fostering a shared appreciation for cinematic masterpieces.
